How To Use Personal Branding To Shine Bright

How To Use Personal Branding To Shine Bright 209 It's all about amplifying your message. This is a guest post by Yinka Olaito. If you’d also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. Ignorance is not bliss. People who know nothing often operate in darkness. Life in darkness holds no benefit to the individual or the community at large, and staying in darkness of ignorance makes you feel life is a constant struggle. It gives the impression something must be wrong with you. Meanwhile in absolute terms, nothing is wrong with you at all.eval It is your ignorance and your inability to know how to switch the light on in your career or profession that is the key to life's struggle. The world of career and professional progress requires a certain amount of light for you to get noticed. How far and bright that you can shine the light will determine your influence.eval Many operate with sixty watts while others â€" through knowledge and wisdom â€" are using hundreds of thousands watts. The difference in energy level will show in the darkness: with sixty watts, you can command a level of attention, but with a thousand watts, you will lead your field until someone with a higher capacity shows up. As professionals, we have to know that no matter the level of struggle we are presently facing, light overcomes darkness. We won't need to beg, but we will start commanding attention based on the level of light we are shining around the workplace. It is an open secret that everyone can make a choice in this regard. Unlike the electric bulb whose effect is seen immediately, personal branding requires certain foundations which may not be visible at the initial stage, but these foundations need to be in place. This has to do with a personal determination on choice of profession, which is also a product of personal analysis of your skills and what thrills you work-wise. Without this, even if you switch on hundreds of thousands of watts, you will get no result. With this foundation laid, let us now examine five ways you can increase the strength of your professional bulb. 1) Avoid unhealthy competition Competition is good in life. But the best competition you can win is to first begin to compete with your own internal resources. It has been said that the brightest of all humans use less than 20% of the real stuff they are made of. If this is true, it means many of us are not using even 10% of our potential at all. The way to start competing with your own potential is by placing a demand on it. On the other hand, external competition is to find out what your competitors are doing. With caution; never engage in a dirty battle- it destroys your brand and professional career more. Have standards and know what your values are before you compete. 2) Be generous with sharing ‘No one cares how much you know' is a popular cliché. Be the guy who helps as many people as much as you can. Your influence will be limited to how many people you are able to make better. Share knowledge, connect people. Be the go-to guy when people need help in your niche. This has a ripple effect. 3) Be natural, be believable You gain nothing by having a fake brand. You lose more when you are acting a part. Your personality must be allowed to manifest. Try placing a fish on dry land and expecting it to swim, then you will understand the reality better. 4) Never belittle anyone Many have the attitude of looking down on certain individuals based on their present rung of the ladder of progress. That is the greatest mistake you can make. Tides do turn and it may be too late to correct a bad impression. By whatever means, give everyone their respect. It cost you nothing, but it does bring you valuable returns. 5) Be sure your “electrical” connections are working perfectly Have you seen what happens when there is a bad connection in your electrical appliances? The effects of a short circuit can be destructive. A person may be electrocuted or suffer unimaginable physical damage. The same goes for the relationships you build along the way. Be sure there is perfect alignment with your values and design. If the experience is anything else, you may live with regret for the rest of your life. Five Personal Branding Tips for Musicians - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Five Personal Branding Tips for Musicians - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Some of the best and worst personal branding practitioners I know are musicians. The good ones promote the bejeezus out of themselves everywhere and anywhere they can. The bad ones book a gig, post something to Facebook (maybe), send a few posters to the venue, and leave it at that. Here are five personal branding tips to help musicians promote their music, get more fans, and draw a bigger crowd at their next show. Post videos of your performances on YouTube and elsewhere. A lot of musicians dont like putting up videos because theyre afraid it will take away from their live shows or music sales. But its quite the opposite. People will listen to your videos on a computer or mobile phone. Nothing compares to the live show or the CD or mp3 in the car. And this will give them a sample of new music youre working on, or let them sample your work. Put up a couple of videos so people can see how you sound live, and theyll want to come experience it. Build a mailing list. Set up a newsletter and encourage people to sign up for it on your website, your Facebook page, your Twitter account, and at your live performances. Make sure you have a signup list at every show you do. Encourage people to sign it a few times during your performance. Build a Twitter and Facebook list. If youre not on Twitter and Facebook yet, get on it. If youre on it, beef it up. Use Twellowhood.com to find Twitter people in the cities where youll be playing. Upload your mailing list to Twitter and Facebook to add to those friends/followers as well. Swap features with another musician in your newsletter. Find another artist you think your fans would like. If you sing country, find another country artist. If you play jazz piano, find another jazz pianist. Feature them in your newsletter, and get them to feature you in theirs. After all, people like musical genres and several artists within it. So feature an artist in exchange for them featuring you. You both get exposed to a new audience, and can build new listeners, which makes it a win-win. Share mailing lists with another musician. This is a scary one for some musicians, because youre trusting each other with your precious list. These are people who like you enough to give you permission to contact them again. And you hope the person youre recommending will be acceptable to them as well. But if you can find someone you trust, send out an occasional joint newsletter. Contribute to it equally and share it with both email lists. These last two points may seem especially odd for musicians, but this kind of thing happens in the entrepreneurial world all the time. And like it or not, musicians are entrepreneurs. You can have greater successes and reach a wider audience if you start thinking like one. When Skynet Comes For Us, the First to Go Will Be Our Jobs!

When Skynet Comes For Us, the First to Go Will Be Our Jobs! There has been a sleepy revolution brewing just under the surface the past decade. This isn’t the ramblings of your drunken uncle either. Bloomberg estimates half U.S. Jobs are at risk! You may have seen videos of driverless cars; a tech revolution largely fueled by Google. Or videos of “BigDog” by Boston Dynamics back in 2008. If you did, you likely never thought that these technologies put your job at risk. But this robot revolution is coming, and you might want to consider a career change, before it’s too late. “We’ve Been Here Before” The workforce behind our farms was almost a 100 times larger one century ago. Then in the `70s robots took over factories around the world. The sky didn’t fall then, why now? “These transitions have happened before,” … “What’s different this time is that technological change is happening even faster, and it may affect a greater variety of jobs.”â€"Carl Benedikt Frey a research fellow at Oxford Martin. In the past automation involved machines replacing human MUSCLE. What’s been happening just recently isn’t just hydraulic muscle making jobs easier (tractors, factory robots, CAT heavy equipment) automation is now replacing human BRAINS. Basically, robots are getting SMARTER, making it harder for humans to compete. Smarter and … Adorable? document.createElement('video'); https://balancedworklife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/cute-big-dog.mp4 Smaller, Cheaper, Adaptable Robots The rise of robot cashiers invading grocery stores smart vending machines taking our jobs is just the start. Just like when the Commodore 64 fired up the personal computing revolution (making PCs affordable for everyone). Cheaper, more adaptable robots are changing the labor market. Part of the reason why hydraulic powered factory muscle was less dangerous to our jobs in the past, is because the robots were rather stupid. A well-paid PLC programmer had to play an excessively detailed game of “Simon says” to tell them what to do. This lack of intelligence on the part of old school factory robots meant that the situations they could be applied to is very narrow. 1) Simon says: “Pick up the item.” 2) Simon says: “Move item to the left.” 3) Simon says: “Put item on conveyor belt.” Now, robots are cheaper to buy, cheaper to use (now that they can be “trained” and don’t need to be programed). Also now with cheap powerful CPUs, wireless technology and the internet, a new generation of robots can communicate with the larger world, taking on smarter, more useful tasks. Amazon Warehouse Robots Give a Man a Fish “Give a Man a Fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, feed him for a lifetime.” Another factor putting jobs at risk is computers that they are teaching themselves how to do stuff. The cutting edge of artificial intelligence today is called “deep learning”. This involves “teaching” a program rather than writing every line of code. A programmer will write a small algorithm to start the ball rolling. That algorithm then writes the rest of the instructions needed to solve a problem by “learning” from a cascade of output results, that are human reviewed for increased improvement each time (and sometimes with almost no human supervision at all). “Deep Learning” isn’t some far off future tech either. Stock exchanges the world over is now almost completely handled by having AI bots trading stocks with each other; and you didn’t even notice the transition. Robot Lawyers: AI has already replaced junior legal positions in many law firms today. Why pay a lawyer, when you can just hit Ctrl+F and get a dozen computers sorting through millions of Microsoft Office files. These legal robots crush us puny humans on: Speed, Accuracy, and Cost. Meet the new junior legal team You’re all fired. Robot Doctors: Google can help you search for answers to questions; Watson by IBM is smart enough to skip that step and just give you an answer. Watson will be what WebMD tried to be, and replace your family doctor with a smart phone app. Act Now “Robots Will Steal Your Job, but Thats OK. Learn how to Survive the Economic Collapse and Be Happy”. Listen to us, and you won’t even have to buy a book to make the switch. Depending on the level of risk that your field of work will be swallowed up by automation; you might want to change careers now. Before the economy starts too look like a dystopian, post-apocalyptic wasteland. You don’t want to compete for jobs against these guys. Programming The simplest idea is adding some programming skills to your resume. Combined with skills you already have and you’ll be an invaluable part a team tasked with putting your former coworkers out of a job. For example: if you have a law degree, take a short programming course and you’ll be hired to create legal discovery bots. Your former coworkers might not like you, but you’ll be employed. Designing Robots Besides virtual bots consisting of 1s and 0s, there will be enormous demand for robots with more physical substance to them. Here are some jobs that specialize in Designing and Building them. Electronic Systems Engineer: With this engineering degree, you would be designing printed circuit boards, the robots’ brains. Solve electromagnetic interference problems on your PCBs using testing tools, and anechoic chambers to isolate causes of EM interference. Mechanical Engineer: With this engineering degree, you would be designing robot bodies from scratch. Working with alternate version of AutoCAD software called “Robot Structural Analysis Professional”. PLC Programmer: In this position you would assemble the robot’s lifetime instructions (playing “Simon says” with thousands of pounds of heavy steel). While not all robots will require this job, thousands of them still will. Building Robots Electronics Technician: In this position you would assemble the “brains” of robots. The circuits and boards developed by a PCB designer with electronic systems engineer degree. There is almost no heavy lifting with this job. Electromechanical Technician: In this position you would assemble the “muscles” of robots; motors with large copper coils in them. Expect lots of heavy lifting with this job. Robotics Technician: In this position you would assemble the “bones” of robots. The heavy steel components designed by a Mechanical Engineer. You’ll be doing lots of heavy lifting, dirty with this job; as is easily greasier then a car mechanic. Humans Need Not Apply If you still have doubts that this problem is being exaggerated or blown out of proportion, you really should watch this 15 minute YouTube documentary. It goes into further detail, and has dozens of additional references in its description.
